September 2017 update 28/09

Christmas
We are hoping to have both trees and lights on our high street at Christmas this year. More details to follow.
After a lot of discussion and campaigning, we have sadly made the decision to cancel the Christmas Parade this year as we do not have a dedicated person to manage the event. (Oct 2nd Update – there has been a lot of volunteers come forward to help organise the parade. Meeting planned Tuesday 3rd Oct to discuss)

High street changes:
• The unit where Il Rustico was based (52 High Street) exchanged hands on 29th September so watch this space for new tenants.
• Cheers Insurance (44 High Street) have sold their business and will be moving to Kingston from beginning of October. The unit and the 2 bed flat upstairs are now up for rent.
• Kitchen Market Spanish/Italian restaurant has sadly closed down.
• The Post Office is being refurbished. It will reopen on Friday 29th September.
• The United Reformed Church will be undergoing major work on the front of the Church which is due to start beginning of October. Business as usual while the work goes on.
• Costa Coffee are planning on opening a second branch at 175 High street (the old Peppers Indian restaurant) in between Tesco and HH Pharmacy (and 3 doors down from Bon journo..). Opening planned for end of Nov.
• Jack & Jill School Clarence House will be opening their doors after half term. Their official opening happens on Nov 16th

The high street is now 20mph

Farewells
• After many years of running the Greenwood Centre, Fiona Brennan is moving on next month. We wish her every best wishes in her future plans.

Planning updates:
• 179 -181 High Street (between Cavan & Tesco)
Amendments to this planning are now in and open for comments. Click here for direct link www.richmond.gov.uk/planning by using the reference 16/2288/FUL.

• 63-71 High Street (huge site opposite the Star)
This is still with the planners with revised drawings and documents. Another round of consultation is expected.

• 92 High Street (the Old Refectory pub)
An application was made for a gym use in July but did not include all the required information. The application remains invalid. So no treadmills under the optics just yet …

• St Clare Business Park
This was sold earlier this year but there has been no news or planning application todate.

Consultation:
Edward road double yellow lines – update. A delay has been agreed to put in the double yellows and discussion are underway to find a solution for all.

In an effort to keep our new pavements as tidy as possible, we are going to start an anti-chewing Gum campaign & Scoop the poop. More details on this to follow.
